According to a recent study conducted by Marilyn Elias, USA TODAY, adolescents attention span can be kept on one subject for approximately 17 minutes after that their attention is lost, the study also concluded that the attention span of a child in your class is only kept for 7 minutes. This could all be linked to television. They suggested ways in which you might keep their attention.
1.       Every 7 minutes let them stand up and stretch, physical exercise supplies oxygen to the brain and muscles enhancing their attention.
2.       Get a queue which you may use every time you see the children loosing attention to get them to do something fun and get back to the work at hand. E.g. The word Justin Bieber: they start to sing and dance.
3.        Let them take a breath and do something fun, like playing a guessing game.
4.       Drinking lots of water, it’s not only healthy but also refreshes the brain giving new energy. Thus let your children keep a bottle of water at hand.

  1. I find that if they get a minute to socialize and to take a break to ponder on the topic, every now and then their attention is better kept and they are able to focus better.
